The Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) has chosen Cook County for their annual Distinguished Budget Presentation Award. The award tracks achievements in several nationally recognized guidelines, all of which gauge the budget’s ability to serve as a policy document, financial plan, an operations guide, and a communications device. In addition, Department of Budget and Management Services Director Andrea Gibson has been awarded a Certificate of Recognition for Budget Presentation by the GFOA.
“Creating a responsible, fiscally sustainable, and transparent budget has been the top priority of this administration, and we are fortunate to have the invaluable contributions and hard work of Director Gibson and the Department of Budget and Management team,” President Preckwinkle said.
According to the GFOA, the budget awards are the highest form of recognition in governmental budgeting, highlighting recipients that have pioneered efforts to improve the quality of budgeting, and set the standard for other governments throughout North America.
“This award represents a significant achievement,” said GFOA Director Stephen J. Gauthier. “The GFOA budget awards reflect the commitment of a governing body and staff to meeting the highest principles of governmental budgeting. Through Cook County’s example, we hope that other entities will be encouraged to achieve excellence in budgeting.”
The Government Finance Officers Association is a nonprofit organization serving nearly 17,400 government finance professionals throughout North America by offering training, education, and information on professional government management. The GFOA’s Distinguished Budget Presentation Awards Program is the only national awards program in governmental budgeting.
