Susan K. Power: At Large Winner, 2012 Peggy A. Montes Unsung Heroine of Cook County Award

Susan K. Power has been an activist for American Indians her entire life.

In the late 1940s, Susan was instrumental in establishing the National Congress of American Indians which advocates for the rights of American Indians across the United States. Susan is also one of the founders of the Chicago American Indian Center which promotes fellowship among Indian people of all tribes living in Chicago.

At 87 years young, Susan remains a vital resource for the living history of Chicago’s American Indian community and a beloved ambassador of the values of her people.
