A recent Illinois Supreme Court decision will allow Cook County to collect about $3 million in unpaid taxes, as well as generate another $1 million in tax revenue annually from Midwest Gaming, owner and operator of Rivers Casino in Des Plaines.

Today, with the support of the Board of Commissioners, we successfully culminated months of work with passage of the FY 16 budget.
The Cook County Board of Commissioners today approved the FY 16 budget, a comprehensive plan to increase efficiency, cut the County’s tax-supported expenditures by almost $112 million and address long-term fiscal challenges.

Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle said today she will propose a 1% tax on hotels and motels in the County to provide revenue critically needed to close a gap in the County’s FY 2016 budget and fund critical public safety services in the
