Law Day 2026
The Cook County Law Library will host Law Day on Friday, May 1, on the 29th floor of the Daley Center and at the branch locations at the courthouses in Bridgeview, Criminal Court (4th floor), Markham, Maywood and Skokie. The Law Day event is free and open to the public.
Law Day is an annual commemoration held on May 1 to celebrate the rule of law and cultivate a deeper understanding of the legal system. This year’s theme is The Rule of Law and the American Dream.
Law Day Activities

- 9:15 a.m. Wolters Kluwer VitalLaw training (30 minutes). Remote access available.
- 9:45 a.m. Library tour (15-20 minutes).
- 10:25 a.m. Westlaw training (20 minutes). Remote access available.
- 11 a.m. Celebration kick-off with Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle recognizing Law Day and the work legal professionals do to support and protect the legal system and the importance of access to justice for self-represented litigants (30 minutes).
- 1 p.m. Panel discussion on “Housing Justice and Generational Wealth: Past Lessons, Present Challenges and Future Paths” with panelists, Dennericka Brooks, managing director, Legal Aid Chicago; Dena Al-Khatib, manager, Community and Economic Development, Cook County Bureau of Economic Development; and Bob Glaves, executive director, Chicago Bar Foundation; and moderator Maureen Crichlow, deputy law librarian, Cook County Law Library. - Throughout the day: Information tables with representatives from the Cook County Department of Veterans Affairs, the Cook County Bureau of Economic Development, the Law Office of the Cook County Public Defender, the Chicago Bar Foundation and more in the Daley Center Law Library Reading Room.
