Commissioner Cabonargi Announces Property Tax Appeal Seminars

Cook County Board of Review Commissioner Michael M. Cabonargi will hold a property tax seminar with Senator John Mulroe (10th District), Representative Michael McAuliffe (20th District), Commissioner Peter Silvestri (9th District) and Alderman Mary O’Connor (41st Ward) on how homeowners can appeal their property assessment and lower their property tax bills. The seminar will be held on Tuesday, September 27 at 6:30 PM at Eisenhower Library, 4613 N. Oketo in Harwood Heights. “By bringing our office and services to the neighborhoods, the Board of Review is leveling the playing field for taxpayers, giving everyone the opportunity to voice their concerns and receive a fair assessment,” said Commissioner Michael Cabonargi. “In addition, for the first time in board history property owners can file their appeals online which makes the appeal process easier and more convenient for all property owners in Cook County.” To better serve taxpayers, Commissioner Cabonargi is organizing taxpayer appeal seminars throughout Cook County. These seminars are opportunities for homeowners to seek relief in their property tax assessment through the Board of Review appeal process. The presentation will explain how to file a Board of Review appeal and how an appeal is granted. Attendees are asked to bring their property tax bills in order to more efficiently file an appeal. Staff from Commissioner Cabonargi’s office will be available to answer questions and help complete appeal forms. The only requirement for a taxpayer to appeal a property assessment is a completed complaint form filed in person, by U.S. mail, or for the first time online atwww.CookCountyBoardofReview.com, before the township appeal period closes. Norwood Park Township closes on October 6. The Cook County Board of Review is a quasi-judicial agency responsible for adjudicating assessment appeals for all property in Cook County. Last year the Board reviewed over 380,000 appeals. Commissioner Michael M. Cabonargi represents the 2nd District of the Cook County Board of Review, which includes Norwood Park Township.
