Commissioner Larry Rogers, Jr. and Thornton Township Mayors Hold Two Property Tax Appeal Forums

Commissioner Larry Rogers, Jr. of the Cook County Board of Review, along with Mayor of the Village of Riverdale Deyon Dean, Mayor of the City of Harvey Eric J. Kellogg, President of the Village of Phoenix Terry R. Wells, Mayor of City of Calumet City Michelle Markiewicz-Qualkinbush Mayor of Village of Dixmoor Keevan A. Grimmett, Mayor of the City of Markham David Webb, Jr., Mayor of the Village of Dolton Ronnie C. Lewis, , and President of the Village of South Holland Don A. De Graff will be holding two free property tax appeal community outreach forums for Thornton Township: 1/17/12 at 7:00 PM – 1st Pentacostal Missionary Baptist Church – 14559 Green St., Harvey, IL. 1/19/12 at 7:00 PM – George Patton Elementary School –13700 S. Stewart Ave, Riverdale, IL. These forums will consist of a presentation, where the function of the Cook County Board of Review, issues surrounding property tax assessed valuations, and the importance of filing a property tax assessment appeal will be discussed. After the presentation there will be a question and answer period, after which Board of Review staff will assist attendees with filling out assessed valuation appeal forms. Taxpayers are urged to please bring their tax bill to the events. Commissioner Rogers has launched an aggressive community outreach campaign in response to the property tax crisis that residents across many communities of Cook County have been facing. He stated that “Through unemployment or underemployment, taxpayers are simply without the means to afford exorbitant tax bills.” The Board of Review does not assess property, set tax rates, or collect taxes. There is no fee to file an appeal, and in most cases an attorney is not necessary.
