Commissioner Michael Cabonargi Announces Assessment Appeal Seminars

Cook County Board of Review Commissioner Michael M. Cabonargi will hold seminars with State Senator John Mulroe, State Representative Michael McAuliffe, Commissioner Peter Silvestri, Mayor Ronald Oppedisano, and Mayor Arlene Jezierny on how homeowners can appeal their property assessment and potentially lower their property tax bills. The seminars will be held on Wednesday, August 22nd at 6:00 PM at Estelle Sieb Center, located at 7774 West Irving Park Road in Norridge and on Tuesday, August 28th at 6:00PM at Union Ridge School (gym), located at 4600 North Oak Park Avenue in Harwood Heights. “My office is bringing the services of the Board of Review directly to Cook County residents and providing more transparency and fairness in the property assessment appeal process. We are holding assessment appeal seminars in the neighborhoods on nights and weekends, when it is convenient for the people who need our services most,” Commissioner Cabonargi said. “Our seminars educate the public about the appeals process and offer property owners the opportunity to appeal their assessments, provide evidence, and talk with analysts without taking time off of work and coming downtown,” added Commissioner Cabonargi. “We want the appeals process to be fair, open, and convenient to Cook County residents.” Commissioner Cabonargi is holding assessment appeal seminars throughout Cook County. The seminars consist of a brief presentation on the assessment and property tax system followed by an opportunity for residents to receive assistance filing appeals, submitting evidence and asking Board of Review analysts any questions they may have regarding the appeal process. Attendees are asked to bring their property tax bills in order to more efficiently file an appeal. The only requirement for a taxpayer to appeal a property assessment is a completed complaint form filed before the township appeal period closes. Taxpayers also have the option of filing a complaint online at www.CookCountyBoardofReview.com. Norwood Park Township closes for appeals on September 4. The Cook County Board of Review is a quasi-judicial agency responsible for adjudicating assessment appeals for all property in Cook County. Last year the Board reviewed over 341,000 appeals. Commissioner Michael M. Cabonargi represents the 2nd District of the Cook County Board of Review, which includes Norwood Park Township. Norwood Park Township is located on the northwest side of Chicago; borders include the villages of Norridge, Hardwood Heights and Park Ridge.
