Cook County Board of Commissioners Passes First Information Security Ordinance
The Cook County Board of Commissioners today passed its first information security ordinance, designed to ensure that information entrusted to all County agencies remains safe, secure, and protected from unauthorized access or use.
The ordinance calls for the creation of minimum information security requirements developed by a multi-agency IT working group led by the County’s Chief Information Security Officer (CISO). The CISO will be charged with reviewing agency adoption and compliance and providing annual reports to the County Board.
“This new ordinance demonstrates Cook County’s commitment to information security. Cook County has a complex IT environment and protecting the confidentiality, integrity and availability of our data requires collaboration and coordination among all of the agencies and officials who use our network. This ordinance is a huge step in the right direction,” Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle said.
The ordinance was sponsored by President Preckwinkle and Commissioner John Fritchey (12th.)
