Cook County Law Library Offers Free, Onsite Access to Lexis eBooks

New initiative increases access to high-quality legal research resources

Residents, self-represented litigants and legal professionals now have free access to Lexis eBooks at all six Cook County Law Library locations, connecting users to timely and authoritative legal resources.

eBooks are leading legal resources that cover a wide array of topics including bankruptcy, construction, divorce, family, immigration and personal injury law among other subjects. Previously, these resources were available in print exclusively at the downtown Daley Center location.

“Digital access to Law Library resources eliminates barriers for residents navigating the legal system, promoting access to justice for all,” said Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle. “The ability to provide trusted legal resources at no cost enables us to continue creating a more equitable County for residents.”

The Cook County Law Library provides access to online legal research tools including Westlaw.com, Lexis.com and Vitallaw.com on public access terminals at each location. Members of the public are welcome to visit the Law Library to use the Lexis eBooks and the full suite of onsite hardcopy and digital legal research resources.

Library staff are available to provide guidance on using eBooks and other digital tools in real-time. Free training sessions are also offered throughout the year. Upcoming training opportunities are announced in the Law Library's newsletter. Sign up to receive the Law Library’s newsletter here
