Forest Preserves of Cook County Hosts Community Open Houses at Key Sites

The Forest Preserves of Cook County will be hosting a series of community open houses in late July to showcase improvements suggested for key sites in the recently released Recreation Master Plan and the 2013–2017 Capital Improvement Plan. The open houses will feature design boards for community members to review and offer feedback on prioritizing the proposed improvements. The boards and supporting information will be posted online the week of July 22, 2013 for public comment, which will need to be received by July 31. The dates and meeting sites are: Thatcher Woods/Trailside Museum Tuesday, July 23, 5-7pm Renovated Pavilion at Thatcher Woods 8030 Chicago Avenue, River Forest Plans for Thatcher Woods and the Trailside Museum include a new patio for the pavilion, recreation amenities for the picnic area, an improved parking lot for Trailside and improved circulation/access. Dan Ryan Woods Wednesday, July 24, 5-7pm Renovated Pavilion 87th and Western, Chicago Proposed improvements at the Dan Ryan Woods include an amphitheater adjacent to the renovated pavilion, a natural staircase for the sledding hills, trail improvements, an art installation at the southern end of the site, and improved circulation/access. Miller Meadow Thursday, July 25, 5-7pm Second Pavilion east of First Avenue and Roosevelt, Maywood Plans for Miller Meadow include a new off-leash dog area, a disc golf course, walking trails and improved picnic groves. Eggers Woods Friday, July 31, 5-7pm Renovated Comfort Station 11201 S. Avenue B, Chicago Proposed improvements at Eggers Woods include include trail connections, a diversity garden, interpretive signage and improved circulation/access.
