Cook County Board Approves Funding to Improve Transportation Throughout Cook County and Authorizes Acceptance of Grant Funds

The Cook County Board of Commissioners approved funding this week for transportation-related projects for the County’s Department of Transportation and Highways (DoTH). These funds will help to advance vital improvements throughout Cook County.

Skokie | $94,500

ROW services to secure four parcels in the planned Skokie Valley Trail within the village limits between Dempster Street (northern terminal for the CTA Yellow Line) and Golf Road and will close a critical gap on a regionally significant trail that also will significantly improve access to transit within the village.

Shared-Use Mobility Center | $350,000

Planning services for a study that will provide a network-level approach to assist agencies and communities in the six-county Regional Transportation Authority service area in determining where to locate mobility hubs, which are centers for multiple transportation functions which may include services such as public transit, parking, micromobility options, pick-up and drop-off, ride-hailing services, car sharing, electric vehicle charging stations and others.

Federal Grant Acceptance | $78,865,219

The County presented six resolutions to accept grant awards for federal funds totaling almost $80 million from grant programs such as Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality Improvement program, National Highway Freight Program, Highway Safety Improvement Program and High Priority Projects that will help fund projects including the Old Orchard Road (Woods Drive to Skokie Boulevard) project, Touhy Avenue (Elmhurst Road to Mt. Prospect Road) project, 88th Street/Cork Avenue (Archer Avenue to 81st Street) project, Franklin Avenue/Green Street (York Road to County Line Road) project and safety improvements at three signalized intersections including Ridgeland Avenue at 143rd Street, Kedzie Avenue at 139th Street and Kedzie Avenue at 175th Street.
