Cook County Launches New Digital Equity Website to Expand Access, Inclusion and Opportunity

CHICAGO — Cook County today announced the launch of its new Digital Equity website, digitalequity.cookcountyil.gov, a central hub that connects residents and partners to resources and initiatives that expand equitable access to technology across the County.

The website makes the Digital Equity Action Plan —a countywide roadmap to expand access, build confidence, strengthen internet safety, and improve infrastructure to increase digital opportunity— and programs easier to navigate by putting information, tools and opportunities in one place for residents, organizations and policymakers.

“Digital access is not a luxury, it is a necessity,” said Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle. “With this new website, Cook County is making it easier for residents to find resources, organizations to collaborate and policymakers to act. This is about breaking down barriers and ensuring that every community has the tools and opportunities to succeed in a digital world.”

This site highlights the County’s focus on community voice and collaboration.

“Our website is a trusted source of information and a commitment to our residents,” said Kyla Williams Tate, Cook County’s inaugural Director of Digital Equity, “It lifts up the stories, needs and solutions shared across Cook County. With an accessible and easy-to-use site, we’re creating a more equitable digital foundation that brings opportunity and connection to more communities.”

From device donation programs to digital skills training opportunities, this website is a tool that supports residents, nonprofits, libraries, policymakers or anyone interested in engaging in digital spaces.

“Its data and mapping tools give partners the insight they need to target investments effectively and efficiently, spurring economic growth and expanding opportunity where it is needed most,” said Mauricio Jimenez, Digital Equity Coordinator for Cook County.

Website highlights include:

  • The Digital Equity Map that shows where Cook County and community partners are closing digital inclusion and broadband connectivity gaps, and where work is still needed.
  • A Resource Library of tools and stories, highlighting programs for affordable internet, device access and digital skills training, along with the people bringing them to life.
  • Opportunities to get involved in County initiatives like device donation drives, the Digital Navigator Network and community grants.
  • Key data points, including that 27% of Cook County households lack wireline internet, 21% don’t have a computer at home and 3,400 residents helped shape the plan through surveys and engagement.

Cook County invites anyone looking to grow their digital skills, find resources or support digital equity to explore the new website.
