Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle unveiled the list of the County’s 2017 road construction projects, offering motorists a roadmap for the upcoming season.
The Cook County Department of Transportation and Highways plan will improve roads in nearly 20 suburban municipalities at a cost of $23.2 million dollars.
“Cook County has revitalized its transportation department and is a regional leader in transportation policy under the guidance of Connecting Cook County, the County’s first long range transportation plan in more than 70 years,” Preckwinkle said. “One of the policy priorities detailed in the plan dictates that the County should maintain and modernize what already exists, and this is exactly what we’re doing with the 2017 roadwork plan.”

Pavement Preservation and Rehabilitation Program
- Lake Cook Road at Takeda Parkway in Northbrook
- Mundhank Road-Barrington Road to Freeman Road in South Barrington
- East Frontage Road -- Old Orchard Road to Glenview Road in Skokie and Wilmette
- West Frontage Road -- Illinois Road to Orchard Lane in Wilmette and Northfield
- Joe Orr Road – Cottage Grove Avenue to Stony Island Avenue in Ford Heights and Lynwood
- Sauk Trail at Richton Square in Richton Park
- Sauk Trail at Lakewood Blvd/Blackhawk Drive in Park Forest
- Kedzie Avenue/Frontage Road – 143rd Street to 141st Street in Robbins and Blue Island
- Frontage Road at Crawford Avenue in Country Club Hills
- Kedzie Avenue at 163rd Street in Markham
- Flossmoor Road and Kedzie Avenue in Flossmoor
- Roselle Road at Schaumburg Road in Schaumburg
- 144th Street at Halsted Street in Riverdale
- Central Road – Ela Road to Roselle Road in Schaumburg
- 156th Street – Commercial Avenue to Halsted Street in Harvey
- Happ Road over Skokie River Bridge in Winnetka
Connecting Cook County, the County’s long-range transportation, was released last year. It lays the groundwork for how the County invests in transportation to attract and retain businesses, people, capital and talent.
The policy priorities in the plan are:
- Prioritize transit and other transportation alternatives;
- Support the region’s role as North America’s freight capital;
- Promote equal access to opportunities;
- Maintain and modernize what already exists; and
- Increase investments in transportation.
