Service Information

In cooperation with the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S Environmental Protection Agency, the Department of Environment and Sustainability (DES) operates an ambient air-monitoring network for fine particulate matter (PM2.5 - less than 2.5 micrometers in diameter; PM10 – less than 10 micrometers in diameter), sulfur dioxide, nitrogen oxides, ozone and metals including lead. The network includes 12 sites located throughout Cook County, including in the City of Chicago.
