Operation Green Light for Veterans
Honoring Those Who Served
Cook County participates in Operation Green Light for Veterans, an annual, national initiative honoring the service and sacrifice of veterans. Residents and businesses in Chicago and local municipalities are encouraged to display a green light the full week prior to Veterans Day, Nov. 4 – 11, as a show of support to the veteran community and their invaluable service to the United States.

Residents, business owners, municipalities, nonprofit organizations and government agencies are invited to illuminate Cook County in green to honor those who served.

How to Participate
- Replace one outdoor light with a green bulb during the week before Veterans Day, Nov. 4 - 11. Green bulbs can be found on the Operation Green Light for Veterans Amazon list.
- Share a photo of your green light on social media and include #OperationGreenLightCookCounty.
- Encourage your neighbors, workplace, school, municipality or organization to participate.
Operation Greenlight 2025
From Nov. 4 to 11, 2025, Cook County joined counties across the nation to participate in Operation Green Light for Veterans.
Eleven Cook County administrative buildings were illuminated in green throughout the week leading up to Veterans Day to honor the courage, service and sacrifice of our nation’s veterans.
