Statement from President Preckwinkle on Land Bank Audit


The Cook County Land Bank Authority has done truly admirable work developing neighborhoods, helping underserved communities, breathing life into blighted properties and promoting economic development since it was established in 2013. The Land Bank’s laudable work is supporting entrepreneurship for communities of color, returning properties to the tax rolls, saving homes from demolition and rehabilitating properties.

Public trust in the Land Bank’s transactions and mission is critical to its continued success, which is why I called for an independent audit late last year.

New Bond Posting Opportunities

Expanded Locations for Posting Bonds for Cook County Jail Detainees EFFECTIVE January 17 2017, bond can be posted for Cook County Jail detainees at Suburban District courthouses Monday –Friday between 8:30 a.m. and 3 p.m. (excluding holidays). Bonding continues to be accepted at 2700 S. California Ave., Chicago, seven days a week, including holidays between 9 a.m. and 9 p.m. If bond is posted at a Suburban District Courthouse, the detainee will be processed and released from Cook County Jail, 2700 S California Ave.

Cook County Board Approves Planning for Progress Strategic Plan

Planning for Progress will guide Cook County’s use of an estimated $280 million in resources over the next five years. The Cook County Board of Commissioners today approved Planning for Progress, the County’s comprehensive strategic plan designed to marshal existing funds, gather additional resources, and facilitate partnerships to meet housing, community, and economic development needs between 2015 and 2019. Cook County’s Bureau of Economic Development (BED) spearheaded Planning for Progress with technical assistance from the Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning (CMAP).
