Cook County Workers Provide Expertise and Labor to Repair, Update Two Homes in Chicago Heights

President Preckwinkle toured two homes in south suburban Chicago Heights renovated and repaired by Cook County employees along with local firms and trades as part of “Rebuilding Together,” an annual initiative designed to assist elderly, disabled and low-income residents.

It was the County’s 30th consecutive year of participation in the event, which also included grocery and safe banking kit deliveries to homes as well as other community service projects.

Cook County Department of Transportation and Highways Fair Transit South Cook Project Receives 2021 Innovative Transportation Solutions Award

Fair Transit is a three-year pilot project in partnership with the region’s transit agencies

The Cook County Department of Transportation and Highways (DoTH) Fair Transit South Cook project is the recipient of the 2021 Innovative Transportation Solutions award by the Chicago chapter of Women in Transportation Seminar (WTS) International. The project was recognized at a virtual awards ceremony Thursday evening.

Cook County Medical Examiner Confirms 15 Gun-Related Homicides in One Day

The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office today confirmed 15 gun-related homicides across the County. All the homicides took place May 31.

The Office conducted 35 autopsies today – that’s 15 – 20 more than are usually performed in one day. Three additional forensic pathologists were called in, in order to handle the increased caseload. There are usually five forensic pathologists scheduled daily.

The Cook County Board of Commissioners confirmed President Preckwinkle’s appointment of Jennifer “Sis” Killen to superintendent of the County’s Department of Transportation and Highways (DoTH) this week. She will serve as DoTH’s first female superintendent in the department’s 108-year history.
