Cook County Launches Virtual Maps to Centralize Veteran-Owned Business, Resource Information
The Cook County Department of Veterans Affairs (CCVA), in partnership with the Cook County Bureau of Technology’s Geographic Information Systems Division, launched two interactive maps today to support benefit and resource access for Cook County veterans and military members, the fifth-largest veteran population in the nation.
The Cook County Veteran-Owned Businesses Map provides residents with a directory of more than 100 local veteran-owned businesses, including location, industry type and business details. The Cook County Veteran Resources and Supportive Services Map connects veterans, service members and their families with vital government, nonprofit and community-based organizations within the County.
The new maps encourage community connections and local commerce by reducing barriers to service; strengthening economic development; promoting veteran-owned enterprises; and garnering social support for veterans, service members and their families.
The platforms are designed to provide data to residents in one centralized, user friendly location. Users can locate veteran-owned businesses as well as housing assistance, healthcare services, mental health resources, legal aid, childcare and other vital services.
“These tools not only increase visibility for local veteran-owned businesses, but also ensure our veterans and their families can quickly find the services they need to thrive,” said CCVA Interim Director Vanessa Walters. “Ensuring these platforms are publicly available and up to date reflects our ongoing commitment to equity, accessibility and innovative service delivery for Cook County residents."
The applications are managed by CCVA and updated bi-annually or through direct requests. Business, resource and support service information is validated by the Cook County Diversity Management System and the Small Business Administration.
Service providers and business owners are encouraged to explore the maps and submit updates or new listings to ensure information is comprehensive. Community organizations and partners are also invited to collaborate to expand the reach and impact of these resources.
