Cook County Releases 2026 Transportation and Highways Construction Project Map
Thirteen new projects are slated to begin work this year
The Cook County Department of Transportation and Highways (DoTH) recently released its 2026 Transportation and Highways construction project map. The interactive map, created by the Cook County Bureau of Technology’s Geographic Information Systems Division, includes all construction projects underway or scheduled to begin this year. Projects that preserve, modernize and expand the County's transportation system are featured on the map.
“We’re pleased to provide residents with a convenient platform for information and updates that will help them move around the County in a safe and efficient manner throughout the 2026 construction season,” said Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle. “Helping residents understand where and when construction projects are underway allows them to plan additional travel time or consider alternate routes.”
There are 53 projects on the mobile-friendly map. Thirteen new projects will break ground this year, while 40 projects are continuing work from previous years. Information shown for each construction project includes an expected start date, overview, benefits, scope and updates. DoTH will add projects as construction begins. The public is encouraged to visit the site regularly throughout construction season for updates.
“The 2026 construction schedule includes activities that will benefit 36 municipalities across the County,” said DoTH Superintendent Jennifer “Sis” Killen. “This year’s projects will include roadway reconstruction and resurfacing, bridge replacement and rehabilitation and drainage improvements.”

In addition to the 2026 Transportation and Highways construction project map, DoTH has also partnered with the Villages of Skokie, Elk Grove, Bensenville and Franklin Park and the Cities of Chicago and Des Plaines for major projects along Old Orchard Road (Woods Drive to Skokie Boulevard), Touhy Avenue (Elmhurst Road to Mt. Prospect Road) and Green Street and Franklin Avenue. The linked sites include overall project information and details about the current stage of construction.
Old Orchard Road is on target for substantial completion in 2026. The Touhy Avenue and Green Street and Franklin Avenue Projects are anticipated to last for multiple construction seasons, with completion targeted for 2027.
