Vets and Pets

Service Information

The Cook County Department of Veterans Affairs, in partnership with the Cook County Department of Animal and Rabies Control, is proud to host the Vets and Pets clinics dedicated to providing essential care for the pets of veterans, service members and their families. Service animals and companion pets play a vital role in the wellbeing of military families, providing emotional support, reducing stress and helping ease the transition into civilian life.

Free vaccines and microchips are provided for pets of military families. The event also offers a welcoming space to connect with resources, meet fellow veterans and service members and celebrate the bond between people and their animals.

Vets and Pets clinics honor that bond by delivering high-quality, accessible care to the animals who support our veterans, service members and military families every day.

Vets and Pets services are available to the first 100 dogs on a first-come, first-served basis.

2026 DATES COMING SOON!

Military families are ask to bring a copy of your military ID, veteran ID, dependent ID or military discharge paperwork. Military spouses and dependents are welcome and encouraged to take part in these events.

Past Events:

vets + pets

In 2025, CCVA and the Cook County Department of Animal and Rabies Control partnered with Chicago Animal Care and Control, South Suburban Humane Society and the Illinois Department of Military Affairs to host three Vets and Pets clinics throughout the summer.

At these events, veterans, service members and their families received free microchipping, rabies vaccinations and distemper vaccines for their pets, ensuring their animals stayed healthy, protected and properly identified.

Across the three clinics, more than 300 dogs and cats received essential preventive care.

We’re proud to support our military community and the furry friends who support them!
