Cook County Second Installment Property Tax Bills Expected to be Released by November 14, Due December 15

COOK COUNTY, IL - Today, officials from the Cook County property tax system announced that the 1.8 million second installment property tax bills for Tax Year 2024 are expected to be mailed to property owners on November 14, 2025, with a due date of December 15, 2025.

Property tax bills are mailed to owners twice a year in two installments each year and involve several processes and system stakeholders to ensure they are delivered efficiently and accurately. The critical overhaul of the technological backbone of the Cook County property tax system has had an impact on the County's property tax processes and timelines.

In anticipation of the tax bills being delayed, Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle, who has no statutory role in the administration of the tax bills, initiated a Bridge Loan Program to provide hundreds of millions of dollars in no interest loans to local taxing jurisdictions (LTJs) across Cook County. The Bridge Loan Program was developed to offset fiscal challenges that local taxing districts may have experienced due to the delay of the tax bills and offered LTJs a lower cost borrowing option. Qualifying taxing bodies such as municipalities, park districts, schools, etc. were able to apply for short-term loans. In total, nearly 20 LTJs will receive over $20 million from this program.

For Background

The Office of the President convenes regular meetings with a working group of property tax stakeholders who have committed to continuing to work collaboratively to return bill timelines to their regular schedule. The group meets weekly to share resources, develop strategy and work toward a more equitable, efficient, and accessible system for all Cook County residents and businesses.
