Letter from the President
As the second-largest county in the nation and home to the third largest metropolitan area in the United States, Cook County is defined by the extraordinary diversity, strength and resilience of its people. As President of the Cook County Board, I see every day the vital role our County government plays in the lives of the 5.2 million residents who call this region home. We are charged with protecting public safety, operating the largest consolidated court system in the country, shaping a transportation system that moves our region forward, providing recreational opportunities and driving inclusive economic growth. These responsibilities are profound, and I believe deeply that government must rise to meet them with integrity, transparency, and a steadfast commitment to fairness.
To ensure this work is guided by clear values and measurable goals, we published two strategic plans: the Policy Roadmap in 2024, and the Equity Fund in 2021. This report documents the significant progress that has been made on those plans to advance equity and strengthen our communities. Now, with increased attacks on our most vulnerable and marginalized communities, this progress matters more than ever. It reflects Cook County’s unwavering commitment to governing with equity, engagement and excellence, and to delivering services that honor the dignity, promise, and potential of every resident we serve.
