Cook County Clerk's Office
The Cook County Clerk's Office allows veterans to securely record their DD214, creating a permanent local record of military service. Filing a DD214 can help veterans and their families quickly access proof of service when applying for benefits, requesting military honors or replacing lost documents.

Cook County Assessor's Office
The Cook County Assessor's Office offers several property tax exemptions designed to reduce the taxes for eligible veteran homeowners. These programs include exemptions for disabled veterans, returning veterans and WWII veterans. Depending on eligibility, the exemptions can significantly lower a property's assessed value and resulting tax bill. Cook County Bureau of Economic Development
Transitioning service members, veterans and military dependents interested in starting or expanding a business are encouraged to connect with the Cook County Bureau of Economic Development Small Business Source.
Participants can receive guidance and training from experienced advisors, access veteran-focused business resources and explore grant and capital opportunities available through Cook County's economic development programs. Through partnerships between County agencies and community organizations, the program helps military-connected entrepreneurs translate their leadership, technical skills and experience into successful business ventures. The Cook County Bureau of Human Resources offers a Veterans Hiring Preference program to help eligible veterans compete for careers across Cook County government. Transitioning service members, veterans and military dependents are encouraged to explore available positions and continue their commitment to public service through meaningful County employment.

Veterans Assistance Commission of Cook County
The Veterans Assistance Commission of Cook County (VACCC) provides direct support to eligible veterans and their dependents through emergency financial assistance, VA benefits and claims advocacy and resource referrals. Services may include assistance with housing, utilities, food, transportation, burial expenses and guidance navigating federal, state and local veteran benefits. The VACCC is a County-funded resource dedicated to helping veterans access the support and services they have earned through military service.
